We provide a movement arts space for the residents of Lambertville, New Jersey and beyond to engage creatively and socially. Through classes, events and gatherings we cultivate a sense of expansion for our visitors, setting the talents of local artists at the forefront of our curation.
Our Mission
Our Story
Founders Katherine Kahrs and Puneet Rao met in a capoeira class (a Brazilian martial art) in 2008 in Astoria Queens and quickly formed a common bond over movement arts and education. Katherine was working as an actor while teaching theater arts on the upper west side of Manhattan. Puneet was working as an NYC teacher and afterschool administrator and spending much of his free time training as a capoerista.
In these early years, they talked about starting an arts education center to merge both of their passions in a single hub. At the time, this was a “someday” type of dream.
Fast forward to March of 2020 (and one wedding, two kids and the start of a global pandemic later), they left New York City bound for Hunterdon County, NJ. Having grown up in East Amwell, Katherine knew the area, and it wasn’t long before the quaint but mighty artist enclave of Lambertville became their new home.
Moving to Lambertville during the height of the pandemic was odd and quiet, but they soon found warmth in Lambertville’s eclectic and welcoming community of residents. Lambertville is a home to visual artists, filmmakers, graphic designers and it cultivates a rich underground music scene. With all this richness of creativity we decided Lambertville could benefit from a large open space made for collaboration across mediums. We soon saw a path toward creating that special center we had always talked about and we jumped into this experiment on the Delaware river. Follow our journey and we hope you’ll stop in for a class or event soon!
